When I first arrived in Digital Photography class, I thought I was a good photographer. With taking normal Photography in the past, I thought they would be extremely similar and very repetitive. When Mr. O'Donnell taught us the basics of taking photos like rule of thirds and symmetry, I was excited to take photographs. One thing I never really understood was depth of field. When I came back to look at my photos, I knew which photo to use for depth of field because Bethany told me which was correct. Now, I know how to use depth of field correctly in all of my photos. One large difference this class has made with my everyday and in class photography is that I think more while taking my photographs. Instead of seeing a tree and taking a picture of it, I change angles to show the texture of the trunk and position it in the correct rule of thirds position. I love how this class has changed my eye for everyday things, whether in photography or not. The first day after taking photos, my mind was blown when my friend Bethany started editing her photos in photoshop. When looking at my photos from the beginning of the year to now, the editing has improved greatly. Even with something as simple as turning a photo black and white, my photo quality is much better. At the time of taking my black and white photos and editing them, I edited some trees to black and white and then recently edited a similar picture again and comparing the two it is obvious how much better my photoshop skills have gotten. For this assignment, we had to learn how to take panoramas. We had to take many different photos and bend them together. For this assignment, I realized how much easier it was to use the tripod while taking these photos. While I was taking these it was very windy, so the tripod helped with keeping the camera very steady.
For this assignment, I chose the "open" option. I have always love photographing and looking at trees. They can be so old, strong and beautiful. I tried to get interesting perspectives to give the beauty of the tree justice. For this assignment, I had to get very close and up close to the tree. I learned that you can't always get the colors perfect but if you don't you can fix it in photoshop.
Through this assignment, we were supposed take a photo of the school and distort it. We had to make it seem like a different world within the walls of our building. During this assignment, I learned mostly through trail and error how to make shadows and how to efficiently select things within an image and move it to another image. This project was very fun to see how people really photoshop imaged like I see online.
For this assignment we had to take photographs of any type of nature, either close up or far away. With close up photographs of nature you have to make sure the photo has good texture but still making sure the bright spring colors shine through. Best Photo:Next Top 5:In this assignment I learned that there are a lot more elements you have to deal with when shooting anything outside, especially when you want good, strong colors. The day I shot this assignment, it was a bit windy. So many of my photos had spots that were a little blurry, so I had to be very patient while taking the pictures.
For this assignment, we were given a picture of a car that was unedited and one that was all finished after photoshop. After looking at these photos and reading directions, we have to photoshop the original photo to look similar to the finished product. Through this assignment, one of the main things I learned was how to use the stamp tool. I can use this tool in the photos that I take by erasing things in the background. I'm excited to use this tool more and improve my photos.
For this assignment, we had to test out photoshop for the first time. First taking a normal photo of ourselves, we had to change the colors and contrasts to create a pop art photo. During this assignment, I learned a lot about placing photos equally and well and putting different colors on photos. This is a cool tool to learn because it shows the "behind the scenes" of the simple filters we use everyday.
For this assignment, we had to take any photograph we took and turn it into a well done black and white picture. While choosing what I wanted to photograph, I thought about what would show up well in black and white and how I could best use it to create a better photograph. My Best Photo:Next Best 5 Photos:For these photos, I tried to get interesting angles while looking at the tree. With these angles, I think it better shows the texture of the trees. I learned through trial and error that I had to be at the perfect angle in order for the background not to get in the way of the tree and its texture.
For this assignment, I hope to shoot a photo with very strong contrast. On top of contrast, I hope to show texture well in my photo. In these sample photos, The photographers showed the trees texture incredibly well while still keeping very deep blacks and whites.
